Remembrance Day... the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month

Taken from Patience Strong's "Thoughts For Every Day" - a unique collection of inspirational verse and prose to touch the heart...

"That Others Might Live"

He gave the greatest gift of all, the gift of his unfinished life.  That was the measure of his faith.  He did not flinch from fire and strife, but plunged into the heat of battle, giving all he had to give.  Offering his sacrifice that others might be free to live.

He was young and tender-hearted, loving peace and peaceful ways - wanting only fun and friendship, laughter, life and happy days.  But he knew the price of freedom, wise beyond his meagre years - knowing what the cost would be in blood and sorrow, toil and tears.

One of England's best and bravest, we salute his memory.  To him and to his kind we owe our hope, our life, our liberty.

"Remember Them"

I known and unknown graves they rest,
The young, the bravest and the best,
They too loved well what life could give
And yet they died that we might live.
Twice in half a hundred years
The price was paid in blood and tears,
Twice we faced the German threat
Twice the challenge has been met.
Let not Memory's lamp burn low.
As generations come and go
Sing out their glorious requiem.
Remember them,
Remember them.

The following is a sonnet by Rupert Brooke entitled "The Soldier"...

If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.

Rest in peace to those who fought for this country, this country's people and this country's freedom - we will NEVER forget you...

Still here...

Hi folks

I'm still here but unable to get to e-mail currently. My best friend in the entire world sadly passed away on 20th August 2009 - chaos has ensued and I am in the biggest mess you can imagine.

I will hopefully have e-mail access in the next few days.

USA-CA County Hunter

Being over in the UK there is little information about the award programme USA-CA (United States of America Counties Award) so after visiting the website www.countyhunting.com I decided to make a Yahoo Group for posts and pictures... it would be great if people world-wide were to join!

Thanks :)

International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend

This weekend I am on the radio chasing lighthouses/lightships! My local club were unable to get our usual lighthouse this year so instead I am operating from home looking for lighthouses/lightships. Hoping also to get more towards IOTA and DXCC! Please visit the ILLW official site!

It's Airbourne in Eastbourne (ha that rhymes!) again this weekend so we've got planes going over every few minutes... I get a fab view from here while all the "touristy people" get stuck in huge crowds, pay huge amounts of money for a stupidly thin programme/food/drink etc. My fave planes are the fast jets - although I have seen the Red Arrows more times that I care to remember and they get boring after two years of doing the same display.

Updates...

Went to see the Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain last night at the Pavillion Theatre in Worthing. WARNING: THERE IS NO PARKING!!!!! I had seen their clips on YouTube "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly" being the best one and it was pretty good!

The concert was okay - they are brilliant at what they do but I found that there were too many 'in jokes' (maybe a musicians thing???) and half the music I'd never heard in the first place. When they did play "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly" I found it to be a disappointment as it was nowhere near as good as the YouTube version - I guess they play different versions in different venues??? Was also sat too far away (four rows from the back!) but that was my fault entirely.

Hello...

Well, a few days gone by and no posting! I have uploaded many photos to FlickR and three videos; please take a look. I'm sorry about the small photos, I will get some bigger ones of the cats soon.

I really didn't know how easy it was to upload video!

Bob - 31st May 2009

Bob - 31st May 2009, originally uploaded by Tammie M3ENF.

Video of Bob at Lewes dog centre. Enjoy!

Here we go...

...as said by the Chemical Brothers! Welcome to my blog. I have decided to have a blog and a FlickR account oh and Twitter - but for now I do not want to join the marauding hoards on Facebook. :) I hope that won't offend anyone.

My FlickR is here so please take a look!

My thanks go to Southgate ARC for letting me use their RSS feed in my blog. I hope you find it useful!

Okay well I had best get on and perhaps I will post again later.

73 all!

Tammie :)
